During a long conversation with veteran star outfielder Mookie Betts, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was very honest in admitting that at one point during the 2024 World Series, he was afraid the Yankees might come back and win.
According to the Dodgers’ skipper, during the recent Fall Classic against the Bronx Bombers, he feared having to return to Los Angeles to play Game 6 of the World Series, in the event that they had lost the final game in New York, which ultimately didn’t happen.
«I’ll tell you this publicly. I was so scared to go back to Los Angeles for Game 6,» Dave Roberts told Mookie Betts on the B/R Walk-Off podcast.
Roberts added that having experienced coming back from a series he was losing 0-3 as a player allowed him to adjust his strategy during Game 5 against the Yankees on October 30, when they were trailing 5-0 as late as the fifth inning.
According to the manager of the Los Angeles team, a team down 0-3 in a playoff series becomes more dangerous because they have nothing to lose. This is why he feared the Yankees could win two games in a row and force the World Series to return to the West Coast of California.
